1st Period:
Go to the library to work on your introductory paragraph and your first body paragraph.
The introductory paragraph will be due tonight at 11:59
How to Do the Introductory Paragraph:
These are the things the introductory paragraph must have:
A thesis statement
A thesis statement is the topic of your research paper and your position on this topic
A hook or grabber
This can be an anecdote (a short story or tale, sometimes amusing)
An interesting factoid
An interesting statistic
A brief – one sentence per item – overview of what your research paper will cover
A transitional sentence
How to Do the Body Paragraph:
Mini-topic sentence
Develop the topic by providing your position or important evidence
This should be about three to four sentences or lines
Introduce your evidence or your quotation!!!!
(You can do this by writing: According to Professor Jones, professor of Neuroscience at Princeton, “Quotation.”)
Evidence (original quotation or your paraphrase, your explanation, your analysis)
Then explain why and how this quotation or evidence supports your thesis.
Transition sentence to next body paragraph
